i always ignored my diet until i realised my skin would worsen after eating certain things.
let’s talk about the potential foods that help and hurt your skin.
COMMON DIETARY TRIGGERS FOR ECZEMA
some foods can trigger eczema flare-ups, i recommend taking an allergy test so you know exactly what could be triggering you:
- dairy: milk, cheese, and other dairy products.
- gluten: found in wheat, barley, and rye.
- soy: in a wide range of foods and can be a common allergen.
- eggs: a common allergen that can trigger eczema in some people.
if you suspect a food is triggering your eczema, try eliminating it from your diet for a few weeks to see if there’s an improvement. reintroduce it slowly and observe your skin’s reaction.
anti-inflammatory foods that support skin health
eating anti-inflammatory foods can help calm your skin. add these to your diet:
- fatty fish: salmon, mackerel, and sardines are rich in omega-3 fatty acids. they reduce inflammation.
- fruits and vegetables: blueberries, spinach, and sweet potatoes are packed with antioxidants. they promote healthy skin.
- nuts and seeds: walnuts, chia seeds, and flaxseeds are great sources of healthy fats. they support skin health. (unless you’re allergic to nuts like me of course!).
- turmeric: this spice has powerful anti-inflammatory properties. add it to your dishes for an extra boost.
the benefits of staying hydrated
hydration is crucial for healthy, plump, radiant skin. drink plenty of water throughout the day to keep your skin hydrated from the inside out. proper hydration supports your skin’s barrier function and helps prevent dryness and irritation.
